Meaning of Hometown Glory Lyrics by Adele

Hometown Glory was released in October 22 in 2007 in UK and it was the first single that was included in her debut album 19. However, this particular song was released once more as her fourth single in the year 2008. This particular song has not become popular and it could be because of the lyrics. The song was given a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 2010.

As the title of the track suggests, “Hometown Glory” is about the town where she used to live as well as about the memorable things about this town. If you listen to the song carefully, you can really understand her thoughts and her feelings for her hometown, West Norwood in London. Her mother convinced her to leave the city so that she can go to the University to further her Studies. This song was written just 10 minutes after she has left her hometown.

Through this song, she is remembering everything about London. The weather of the city use to remain foggy which Adele loves so much. This city attracts her and she wants to go back to there, though it is not possible. In the song Adele walks the streets of London whimsically. She avoids the cracks in the pavement during her school days and she believed that “step on a crack, break your mother’s back”. She is not feeling well (sadness), as her heart is full of sorrow for leaving her hometown.

Every person in his or her life goes through this situation when they leave a place. People have to leave their home town for studies or for work and they suffer from the nostalgia about their home.

Chorus:

"Round my hometown Memories are fresh Round my hometown Oh the people I've met Are the wonders of my world"
